Festos was a city already 6000 years before Christ, located close to the southern coast, 55 km south of Heraklion. Palace visiting was built about 2,000 years before Christ, and the ruins are well worth a visit.
Kydonia was the third largest city in the Minoan culture of Crete. Situated in the center of Chania, this is a very easy target to visit. In fact, the entire center of Chania built atop Kydonia, but only small parts are understandably excavated.

Frangokastello is a completely intact small fort located at Sfakia, on the south coast. The fort was built by the Venetians in the period 1371 to 1374. The fort has the classic square shape, with a tower at each corner. Fantastic beach just below.
Aptera is a Turkish fort, located 12 km east of Chania. Built as part of a chain short after the Cretan revolution in 1866.
The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, the world's largest collection of Minoan antiquities. The museum is considered one of the most important in Europe, and covers the Minoan culture through 5,500 years.
The Maritime Museum of Chania. Situated at the entrance to the harbor, the museum is very easy to find. The museum shows among others, elements of the union between Crete and Greece in 1913, and from the Second World War.
On the German war cemetery in Maleme is more than 4,000 German soldiers buried. The area is very nice maintained. Kun10 minutes from our apartments.
One of the world's oldest olive trees situated in Vouves, just 20 minutes drive from Tavronitis. The tree is at least 2500 years old. There is also an olive museum on site.
Just off the highway 7 km east of Chania is an art-Craft park, where they produce handicrafts, jewelry, leather goods and everything else one might find in the small shops in Chania. Ask us about the road! The park consists of 87 buildings with 112,000 square meters area.
